Cervelo P5 Ultegra Di2 2019
This bike is a step up from my 2017 Liv Avow Advanced bike and is a bike I plan on having a long time and riding through my pro career. It was a long term purchase that I made at the beginning of 2018 after much research. The reason I decided to purchase this bike is for the reason that it was the closest triathlon bike to me, still a five hour drive away, that I was able to test ride and talk to a bike shop that carried multiple triathlon bikes. I was not keen on buying a bike on the internet without test riding it.
The bike and I did not seem to mesh as well as I did with my first TT bike probably because this was the first bike I ever rode that had electronic shifting, power, and high end components. Gradually we started to bond and at my first race on the bike I qualified for Kona for the first time. I have had issues with the Di2 on the bike but none of the Di2 issues are related to the bike simply general Di2 user issues you have when traveling, forgetting to charge, internal cables coming unplugged, etc. I have had the front end hit a couple times when traveling, I use a soft case Scicon bag, but it is a simple fix by loosening some bolts on the side of the stack. Most bike shops and mechanics can work on this bike even though they hate seeing it roll through the front doors. Evidently there is more internal wiring in the bike than most electronic shifting bikes and they hate working on the bike because of that. I do not know if this is a correct statement or the bike mechanics just do not fancy working on electronic shifting bikes.
Overall, this is my primary bike and currently I do not have a road bike so I climb with it in the mountains and it handles very well. I have not had to replace any components, besides standard wear parts, on the bike since I have had it and everything is still in great shape. On average, I spend 10-12 hours a week on this bike both indoor and outdoor. I have changed the wheels out to the HED Jet X Six wheels on the bike and use the factory wheels for my “training” wheels. Overall, I am very happy with this bike and it is fast!
